The exhibition "JOY ICE CREAM: Sweet Ice Cream that Stores Memories" by artist Kang Min-seok was held from August 1 to August 31, 2024, at Starfield City Myeongji in Busan. This exhibition showcased a project that combines NFT technology and media art, where real-world objects are recreated and stored in the virtual world. Through the iconic symbol of ice cream, Kang Min-seok aimed to express the nature of memories, which become distorted over time. The fleeting, easily melting nature of ice cream symbolizes our memories and moments in life.
Kang Min-seok is known for his abstract work, which distorts the shapes of cars and explores themes of time, speed, and self-discovery. Using acrylic paint and a squeegee, he created abstract expressions by scraping the surface, and in this exhibition, these techniques were combined with NFT and media art. The exhibition featured 10 open edition prints, 10 original sculptures, and 30 media art pieces. Large screens displayed vibrant and uniquely shaped ice cream, offering visitors an immersive experience.
This exhibition used the transient nature of ice cream to visually represent how our memories change over time and reflect the diverse emotions and experiences of modern life. Through this ice cream icon, Kang Min-seok invited the audience to reflect on the importance of memories, the fleeting nature of happiness, and how we choose to preserve and remember those moments. The exhibition emphasized the significant meaning that even the smallest moments in life can hold.
The exhibition concluded successfully with great interest, introducing Kang Min-seok’s unique artistic vision to a broader audience.
