MINSEOK KANG
Minseok Kang, an artist born in South Korea in 1980, has had a passion for expressing himself through painting since childhood. He studied fine arts at Dong-A University, earning his bachelor's degree in 2007 and his master's degree in 2010. At the age of 30, he transitioned from telling stories of the city to exploring narratives within the city itself, using the form of cars to convey these stories.
Over time, Kang's work has evolved beyond the mere external beauty of cars to express his unique style. His artworks reflect elements such as time, space, relationships, and culture, combining these aspects into cohesive forms.
Currently, Minseok Kang portrays the pursuit of happiness by the modern generation amidst intense competition, depicting this journey with distorted car shapes. He employs acrylic and a squeegee technique to scrape paint, expressing artificial lines, speed, and temporal forms through embroidery or increasingly abstract transformations.
Since 2023, Kang has been focusing on diversifying his expressions through various media. He collects leftover paint fragments and films them, mimicking objects and forms of memory. He also participates in sculpture work, continuing to explore new artistic challenges.
In his study of racing cars, Kang represents the flow of speed and time. These cars symbolize more than just a means of transportation; they represent the journey of our lives. The cars in his works encapsulate the process of relentless competition and self-discovery, explosively expressing inner desires and passions with vibrant colors and lines. His depictions of the intense journey and unstable time symbolize the struggle against unseen forces and the courage to find new paths beyond the temptations of the city.
All these processes signify the completion of Minseok Kang's identity and mark the beginning of a journey of continuous exploration and discovery.
